Welcome to Cambridge Youth Hockey, home of the FALCONS!

CYH provides a fun and inclusive introduction to the great sport of hockey for kids in Cambridge and our neighboring communities.  Whether your child is looking to learn to skate, learn to play hockey, refine their skills in hometown play, or join a travel team, we have a program or team for you.  Our home ice for practice and games is Simoni Skating Rink, located in East Cambridge.  Everyone is welcome at Simoni - come check us out!

CYH competes with co-ed teams in the Valley Hockey League at the Mite (8 years of age and under), Squirt (U10), Peewee (U12), Bantam (U14), and Midget (U18) levels, and with girls teams in the Middlesex Yankee Girls Hockey Conference at the U12, U14, and U18 levels.  The season for most of these teams runs from September through late March; Midget and Girls U18 are split-season (fall only) teams.  While travel team placements for the next season happen every year in late March, new players are always welcome at all levels - goalies too!

We also offer instructional programming for younger kids starting in late fall and running through the winter.  These programs include the Little Bruins' Learn-To-Play program (typically held in early fall, expected to resume Fall 2021), and our own Learn To Skate, Learn To Play Hockey, and Learn To Play for Girls, generally starting in early December and happening every Saturday morning through March.  You can find out more about these programs via the tabs on our menu, to the left.

As one of the most affordable town hockey programs in the Greater Boston area, CYH offers more ice time for your hockey dollar than just about any other program around.  Come join us this year!

Virtual Awards Banquet

One of the highlights of the hockey year is the CYH Awards Banquet where we can all get together over pizza and ice cream and relive the fun, friendships, and growth our kids had over the seven-month hockey season. This year, though we can’t all be together in one big room, I hope you can join in via Zoom to celebrate the extraordinary work all parents, kids and coaches put in to make this strangest of years a success.

In the 40-minute Zoom, each team will be giving out awards to recognize the hard work and successes, and we will recognize some exemplary young players with our ‘Major Awards’ that CYH has been presenting annually since 1995.

CYH Major Program Player Awards

These awards, each named after a prominent figure in the history of Cambridge Youth Hockey, at the same time honor both the past and the present of our beloved organization. The players who receive these awards today continue a tradition of sportsmanship, commitment, respect, humor, skill, enthusiasm, love of the game and leadership that capture the spirit of Cambridge Youth Hockey advanced by the CYH leaders for whom these major player program awards have been named.

There are 5 major program player awards

  • Ken Cleary “Rookie of the Year” Award: Ken Cleary served as a CYH coach for over a decade, leading his teams to 4 state championships. Each year, the Ken Cleary Award is given to a player who makes a big impression in his or her first year on a CYH travel team.

  • Jack “Bonesy” Mahoney Award: Jack Mahoney served as a CYH coach for three decades, inspiring several generations of players. Each year, the Jack Mahoney Award is given to a Squirt player who displays sportsmanship, respect, commitment, and humor.

  • Tom “Unkie” Fitzgerald Award: Tom Fitzgerald was one of the founders of CYH in 1973, and coached in the program for many years. Each year, the Tom Fitzgerald Award is given to a Peewee player for his or her commitment to hockey, attendance, effort, receptivity to coaching, and love of the game.

  • Molly Hanna Award: Molly Hanna’s parents founded this award to honor the memory of their daughter, Molly, who loved playing hockey in our program. Each year, the Molly Hanna Award is given to a girl in the program who attends all practices and games and shows leadership, respect, and love of the game of hockey.

  • Sil Ferreira Award: Sil Ferreira was one of the founding members of CYH, CYH president for many years, and CRLS varsity head coach. Each year, the Sil Ferreira Award is given to a Bantam player who displays dedication to the sport of hockey, sportsmanship, and skills.

Thanks for a great season!

It's been quite a year for hockey, and we could not be prouder of how our Falcon players and families navigated the year of COVID hockey.  From distancing to face masks to no locker rooms, you handled it all with enthusiasm and good humor.  Thank you for your spirit, your effort, and most of all, thank you for playing hockey with CYH!

Have a great summer and in September . . . we'll see you at the rink!
